MANUFACTURING · Diecasting Mold ENGINEERING RESOURCES
Plan secondary operations early
Die casting produces the base shape, but bores, threads and sealing faces may require machining. Define the allowances and datums before the tooling design is finalized.
Treat finishing as a manufacturing operation
Coating thickness and masking can affect fits, electrical contacts and assembly. A finish specification should cover substrate, color, texture and functional surfaces.
Inspect against the final drawing
Agree which dimensions and tests establish acceptance, including when they are checked in the process. The final inspection plan should represent the finished part, including machining and coating.
